In week 23 we received a request to provide a master for a fast crew tender.This was a request with short delivery notice. Week 24 Wednesday the 15th our captain arrived at the vessel

In the beginning of January 2016 I emailed Total Crew, to inform them we arrived with our boat ‘SV Mylady’ in South Africa and I was available again to sign on (mysaillady.blogspot.com ). Total crew quickly replied that they were looking for a captain for the mv Panda.
I checked via internet what kind of vessel it was and was very positive. After that, everything goes very quick. By the end of January 2016 I took a flight to the Netherlands and signed on in Dordrecht, to relieve captain owner Mr. Held.
The MV Panda has the following dimensions:  LOA 88,95 en 12,50 meter wide. She is sailing in Charter for Amadeus. The total crew on board consist 6 persons: besides myself in as Captain, is the rest of our crew a first mate, a second mate, an engineer and 2 Ab’s. One of the AB’s is also working as cook.
The MV Panda has a BIBU certificate that means she is allowed to sail without pilot in the rivers, and goes along side in the ports in the Netherlands without pilot.
 
When we arrived in Dordrecht discharging operations went quickly. In the late afternoon, vessel sailed to Duisburg, together with our Pilot, Mr. Noorda. For this canal from Dordrecht to Duisburg a river pilot is required, or you need a specific inbound license, licenses I don’t have.
In Duisburg the vessel loaded steel plates via Rotterdam, where our river pilot signed off again. After that we sailed to Rostock. In Rostock I had to show my skills. We had to maneuver the vessel backwards in a dock. There wasn’t a lot of space in this dock.
 
After completion discharging operations we were fixed to load coils from Kaliningrad (Russia) to Wismar (Germany). In Kaliningrad the loading procedures are not that special, but there is so much paper work to do before you reach the port of Kaliningrad!
We arrived with the vessel on Saturday evening, and had the whole Sunday time to spend in Wismar. Wismar is a beautiful city with a lot of old buildings. Up to our next port after Wismar! Let’s see were Amadeus will bring us.
 
I am enjoying my stay on board of the mv Panda. I am also very pleased to work with Total Crew again. They always try to find me a new job for the months I am available.

De mv Orcana was op zoek naar een kapitein, binnen een dag had Total Crew een passende kandidaat!

 

De kapitein die Total Crew gevonden heeft,vliegt woensdag naar Piombino (Italie) waar het schip zoals het nu lijkt donderdag 12-02-2015 weer vertrekt en richting Tunesie vaart. 

De mv Orcana is in 2006 gebouwd, vaart onder Nederlandse vlag en heeft als thuishaven Stavoren.

  • Deadweight zomer is 5063 GT
  • Deadweight winter is 4914 GT
  • Lengte overall 89.99 Meter
  • Breedte 14 Meter.
